Airedale Terrier puppy training. by Karen Webb.
Living with and teaching your Airedale puppy can be and should be a
wonderful experience. “A dog is living in a world it does not
understand and therefore we need to learn to communicate with him in a
language he understands” …Canine Communication......more
A tale of two Airedales. by Linda Siehler.
In April of 2003 I lost my best friend, Annie, a little 12 lb terrier mix.
She was 17 years old. She had helped raise my children and been everyone's
councillor and "nurse doggie". The house was so empty. The kids were "on
their own" and I was retired. I needed fur in my life. Our local
animal shelter was having an animal adoption fair at the shopping mall and I
told my husband I was going to get a puppy.....more
Rumble's story.
by Karen & Alan. We kept what you are about to read quiet
for a while …… but now the time has come to tell Rumble's story. As least as
much as we feel we can today. Rumble was part of a loving home from
the age of 8 weeks. He was owned by a couple and from what we know from a
heartbreaking long letter written by his daddy he was the centre of
attention. The lady was at home all day with him, the husband working some
90 minutes journey from home. One autumn evening in 2004 his owner arrived
home to find Rumble in the garden sat with the body of his wife who had
tragically died suddenly. ......more
Introducing a female to a male Airedale.
by Dinah. It sounds lovely, a new canine companion for the
old boy so he won’t be lonely any more. Of course they’ll get along, he’s
such a sweetheart, when he isn’t up to the usual Airedale mischief.
Unfortunately it doesn’t always go so smoothly, as we found out when we
brought 7 month-old Katy home to live with us and 4-year-old Fred......more
Pemphigus.
Robbie's Story, by Dennis.
Pemphigus is an immune
system disorder, which affects the skin. Airedale's are not on the list
of breeds known for having it.
Robbie is our third
Airedale. We adopted him at 2 years of age from the breeder where we
bought our Teddy. Robbie is Teddy's actual brother from a different
litter and is very affectionate.....more
Hip
Dysplasia
in Airedale Terriers. Angus's
story, by Zoe & Craig.
Angus started showing signs of a problem at 5 months, he would have
difficulty rising from sitting or lying down, he would equally look
like an old man sitting down, as he would gently ease himself onto his
left butt cheek only and sit all crooked. He was also very stiff after
naps. Out for walks, he would take no more than 10-15 steps and he
would then lie down.....more

Why an Airedale
Terrier...? By
Carrie. We
had a wonderful terrier/mix dog for almost 14 years. He was raised with
our daughters and became part of our family. He was our first terrier. We had a
Springer spaniel for 8 years. A good dog, but not like our
friendly, almost human terrier, Fritz.....more

What happened when our Airedale was accused of
biting. Justice's story, by Sue ("Justice for
Justice!").
Mike & I
got Justice at the age of 15 months. When we first brought him
home, he was certainly not a normal Airedale. Quickly, and with
Bandit’s help, he has regained his sense of humor and Airedale
tendencies. Although he isn’t a digger, when outside he
loves to run back and forth across the inside of our 4 ft. picket
fence, barking at the strangers passing by and grinding up the yard.....more
'Mouthing' & biting from a young Airedale.
Candy's story, by
June & Katie. It was time to get
another dog, and Bill, my other half, wanted an Airedale. In days gone
by when he was a small boy he had a push along dog on wheels which
just happened to be an Airedale. My daughter Katie and I just wanted a
dog. Ever since I’ve known Bill he has always said that the only dog
he would ever have would be an Airedale, not that he knew anything
about owning one (or being owned by one).....more
Obedience School Dropout. Kirby's
story, by Cheryl.
New dog owner, beware. You
gaze into those adorable puppy eyes at the breeder’s, thinking, I can
mould this animal into the next Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, or at least, a paler
version of Balto. You’re remembering the black and white footage of a
muscular dog trailing a burning boxcar, dragging out a half-dead hobo.....more
Having a baby with an Airedale in the house.
By Patty.
So, you think you are the only one noticing that you are getting fat?
Nope-your Airedale knows. He senses it. He sees you eating pints of
ice cream, loads of hamburgers and french
fries and he especially smells those hot dogs with extra sauerkraut
and mustard that you crave.....more
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
in Airedale Terriers.
A stinky little problem, by Sue & Mike.
When we first brought Justice home, I expected to be able to feed him
as I feed Bandit, my little one with the cast iron tummy. Boy,
was I wrong. Justice’s prior owner didn’t want him to get fat
(his exact words to us) so he limited the amount of dog food he got
and the amount of water he received....more
Airedale Terriers in Japan. By Shino Sugimoto.
It was January in 1987 when we first met the Airedale
puppy. I and my husband Takemi had never seen Airedales before even an
adult Airedale. Although we had had a Beagle already, Takemi was getting
interested in becoming an Airedale owner. One day, we found the
breeding information on Airedale puppies in a dogs magazine and went
to see the puppies.....more
Airedale Terriers in Australia. By Dinah
We’ve always owned big dogs,
but Fred is our first Airedale and he’s been a real education.
The mischief he gets into and the challenges he presents us with never
fail to amuse and exasperate. Owning an Airedale in Australia
means considering all the dramatic stuff like the dangers of snakes
and spiders, and surviving ridiculously hot weather.....more
Airedale
Terriers in Russia. by Senashenko Ekaterina, Judge FCI-RKF, owner of Airedale Kennel "KATTYLINE". Airedale Terriers were the
first breed of terriers to appear in Russia. At the beginning of

approached Lt. Col. Richardson, the recognized authority in the field of military dog-breeding at
the time, with a request to help provide the Russian army with dogs
specially trained to take the wounded away from the battlefields.....more

After
getting Snowy our first Airedale, I heard that it was possible to have

Bloat in Airedale Terriers.
Fred's Story, by Dinah. Bloat is the second most
common killer of dogs after cancer & it's more prevalent in big dogs,
including Airedales. Bloat is huge amounts of gas in the stomach
which can make the stomach swell, then twist (torsion) partly or a
full 360o. If it reaches this stage, your dog's in big trouble as this
cuts off the blood supply to the heart & spleen & the stomach lining
starts to break down because food can't pass into the
intestines.....more
