Enjoy these, some are for your Airedale and some are for you.
 
Planet Airedale has not tried any of these recipes so please make your own mind up as to the suitability of these recipes for either you or your Airedale.

 

Party Cake (for Airedales)

2 cups water, 1/4 cup mashed banana, 1/8 teaspoon vanilla, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons honey, 3 cups whole wheat flour, 1 cup dried bananas, 1/2 tablespoon baking powder

Frosting:  8 ounces low-fat cream cheese, 3 teaspoons carob powder, 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, in a bowl, mix together water, mashed banana, vanilla, egg and honey.  In a separate bowl, combine flour, dried bananas and baking powder, mix thoroughly and add wet ingredients to dry and mix.  Pour into an 8-inch greased cake tin and bake for 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.  To make frosting, beat all the ingredients together in a bowl until smooth.  Spread over the cake and decorate it with pieces of crushed dried banana. Store in an airtight container.

 

Honey and Ginger Cookies (for Airedales)

1/2 cup stick butter Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Mix butter, honey, vanilla, 1/2 cup honey egg and milk in bowl.  1 1/4 tsp. vanilla.  Combine other ingredients in another bowl. Mix wet and dry.  Add one egg together and stir thoroughly.  4 tsp. skim milk.  Knead dough on a lightly floured surface. Roll out 1/4 in. 2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour thick and cut into shapes with cutter. 1 tsp. baking powder Place on greased cookie sheet. 3/4 tsp. ground ginger Bake 15 - 18 minutes. Cool; store in air tight can.

 

ADT Cookies (for Airedales)

3 ½ cups whole wheat flour, 2 ½ cups oatmeal, 3 TBs. corn oil or margarine, ¼ cups molasses, 2 cups water or milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix flour & oatmeal together.  Heat water, oil & molasses together over low heat.  Pour into flour mixture & stir well.  Dough should be stiff.  Pat or roll out to ½ inch thickness.  Cut into 2 or 3 inch strips 1 inch wide.  Decorate with dates, carob or whatever you like.  Bake on greased cookie sheet for one hour or until brown & crisp.  Cool on wire rack.  Drool while cooling & bark or whine for treats!!!

 

Liver treats (Very messy to make but they love them!)  (for Airedales)

1 pound of liver, Clove or garlic powder, 10 eggs, 12 – 15 cups of oatmeal.

Puree liver & garlic in blender.  Blend eggs in blender.  Blend together in blender & pour into large bowl.  Add oatmeal, mix well & pat down onto greased cookie sheet.  Bake 325 to 350 degrees until golden brown & firm to touch.  Cut into small squares.  Store in frigde or freezer.

 

Healthy Dale breakfast (for Airedales)

1 wheat breakfast biscuit, handful of bran flakes, 4 Table spoons low fat natural yoghurt, 1 table spoon honey, thin slices of Apple, banana and carrot.

 

Hairy Dale delicious bites (for Airedales)

1 fish or meat stock cube, 150 ml/quarter pint boiling water, 125g/4 0z tinned flaked tuna in oil, drained, 4 oz porridge oats, 6 g fast action died yeast, 50g plain flour, extra flour for kneading, 1 small beaten egg.

Pre heat oven to 200 degrees C/400degreeF/Gas mark6 grease baking tray or use a non stick one.  Dissolve the stock cube in the boiling water and allow cool. Add tuna, oats, yeast and measured flour and work into a dough.  Put 2 handfuls of flour on to a cool work surface and knead the dough on it until all the flour has been worked in, allow the dough 10 mins to rest.  Cut the dough into 1inch pieces and shape into balls by gently rolling them between floury palms. Place the balls on the baking tray and brush with beaten egg.  Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown. allow to cool.

 

Honey & Ginger Puppy Cookies (for Airedales)

1/2 cup stick butter, 1/2 cup honey, 1 1/4 teaspoon vanilla, 1 egg, 4 teaspoons skim milk, 2 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Mix together butter, honey, vanilla, egg and milk in a bowl.  In a separate bowl, blend together flour, baking powder and ginger.  Combine dry ingredients with wet mixture and stir thoroughly.  Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface, roll out to 1/4-inch thick and cut into shapes. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes.  Cool on a rack and store in an airtight container.

 

Recipe for Iced Christmas Pudding (for Humans)

2oz raisins, 1oz currants, 1oz sultanas, 2oz chopped almonds, 3oz chopped maraschino cherries, 2 tablespoons sherry, 1/4 pint milk, 4oz marshmallows, 1 teaspoon coffee powder, 1 teaspoon cocoa, 1/2 pint whipped double cream

Mix together the fruit, cherries and nuts. Spoon over sherry and leave for 30 mins. Place milk, marshmallows, cocoa and coffee in a saucepan. Heat very gently until marshmallows have melted. Allow to cool. Pour this over the fruit and nut mixture. Freeze till mixture thickens slightly.  Fold in whipped cream and pour into 1 1/2 pint basin. Freeze. Transfer to fridge for half an hour before serving.

 

Baby Back Ribs (for Humans to share with their Airedales)

Ingredients: 1 Rack Baby Back Ribs, Red Wine Vinegar, Dry BBQ Rub or salt - pepper - garlic if you have no rub, BBQ sauce (sweet or spicy depends on your taste).

Preheat oven to 350 deg. Peel membrane off back of ribs. Rub both sides of ribs with 1 to 2 tbs Red Wine Vinegar. Rub both sides with bbq rub or spices of your choice. Wrap tightly in tin foil and put on cookie sheet on middle rack of oven. Cook 1 hr or until meat sucks up on bone. Remove from oven and tin foil and place on medium hot grill, cook on each side 5 to 10 minutes basting with bbq sauce on both sides. Remove from grill put a bib on and enjoy

 

Deep Dish Pumpkin Pie------A family favourite at the holidays (for Humans)

1 3/4 C. flour, 1/3 C. packed brown sugar, 1/3 C. granulated sugar, 1 C. oleo or butter, cut into small pieces, (cold), 1 C. pecans, chopped, 1 16oz. can pumpkin (2 cups), 1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk, 2 eggs, 1 tsp. ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. all spice, 1/2 tsp. salt.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In medium bowl, combine: flour and sugars: cut in oleo until crumbly. Stir in pecans. Reserve 1 cup crumb mixture, press remainder firmly on bottom and 1/2 way up the sides of 12 x 7 inch dish or pan.  In a large mixing bowl, combine remaining ingred. (except the crumb mixture).  Beat well until all is blended. Pour into prepared crumb mixture dish. Top with reserved crumb mixture. Bake 55 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a rack. Cut and enjoy with a dab of cream whip on top. Refrigerate any leftovers.

 

Cheesy Meatloaf (for Humans)

1 1/2 to 2 lbs ground beef (chuck), 2 cloves garlic or (1/4 tsp powder), 1/2 cup tomato juice, salt to taste, 1 T. oregano, 1 T. parsley, 2 eggs, 1/4 tsp. pepper, 3/4 cup cracker crumbs (15 squares), 1 can drained mushrooms or 1/2 c. 6 - 8 ozs Mozzarella cheese (shredded) fresh.

Preheat oven to 350. Mix all ingred. together and pat into a nice sized rectangle (10 x 8 ) on a sheet of waxed paper, then add the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the rectangle. Roll this up like a jelly roll. Pinch ends very tightly together so cheese won't spill out. Place on a rack in a pan*, seam side down. Bake at 350 for 1 1/2 hours. * Spray pan and rack with Pam.

 

Scotch Shortbread (for Humans)

4 oz sieved plain flour, 2oz castor sugar, 4oz butter, 2oz rice flour or ground rice.

Combine flours and sugar in a mixing bowl. Work in the butter until the dough is the consistency of short -crust. Sprinkle board with rice flour.  Turn dough onto the board and knead till smooth. Cut into portions and shape into rounds. Place on greaseproof paper in a baking tin. Prick with a fork. Put into oven at 350degrees. When the cakes begin to colour( from 20 to 30 mins), lower the heat. Allow to cool in the tin.

 

Ayrshire Shortbread (for Humans)

6oz plain flour, 6oz rice flour or ground rice, 6oz castor sugar, pinch of salt, 6 oz butter, 1 egg, 1 tbsp. top of milk.

Mix together the flours, sugar and salt. Rub in the butter until the mixture is like fine bread crumbs. Lightly beat the egg and mix with the top of the milk. Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture and pour in the egg and cream. Knead with the hand till a soft pasty is formed.  Sprinkle pastry board with a little light flour and roll pastry out thinly.  Prick with fork and cut into rounds or fingers. Place on greased paper a little apart and bake in a moderate oven till golden brown. Cool on a wire tray.

 

Forfar Shortbread (For Humans)

1&1/2 lb plain flour, 3oz rice flour or ground rice, 1lb butter, 4oz castor sugar.

Combine the flours and rub in the butter. Stir in the sugar. Turn onto a floured board. Knead the mixture thoroughly with the hand into a smooth dough. Shape into rounds and notch the edges with the forefingers and thumbs. Bake in a moderate oven(350) till golden brown.

Note: for the rich, unforgettable taste of good shortbread, only the best ingredients should be used - butter in preference to margarine and finest plain flour and castor sugar.

 

Petticoat Tails (For Humans)

12oz/375g flour, 8oz/250g butter, 6oz/200g icing sugar.

Cream the butter and sugar together and knead in the flour. Roll out thinly to a large round. Cut out a round from the centre. Divide the remaining circle into petticoat tails. Prick with a fork and pinch round the edge.  Bake for 30-40 mins at 325(170). Dust with castor sugar when cooked.

 

Shortbread (For Humans)

1lb/500g flour, 4oz/125g rice flour, 4oz/125g cornflour, 1lb/500g butter, 8oz/250g castor sugar, salt.

Knead the butter and sugar together and then knead in all the flour. Shape as required. Bake in a moderately hot oven till golden brown.

 

Mincemeat (For Humans)

8oz currants, 8oz seeded raisins, 8oz sultanas, 4oz candied peel, 2oz almonds, 8oz cooking apples, 8oz shredded suet, 8oz soft brown sugar, 1 tsp mixed spice, half tsp ground cloves, grated rind and juice of 1 lemon, 1 gill of brandy or whiskey.

Wash and prepare the dried fruit. Finely chop with the peel, nuts, and peeled and cored apples. Add suet, sugar, spices, and lemon juice. Mix well, cover, and leave to stand overnight. Stir thoroughly, adding the brandy or whisky.  Pack into dry jars and cover as for jam. Keep for a few weeks and stir well before using.

When making the pies, just spoon it into baking tray and cover with shortcrust pastry.

 

Easiest Ever, Low-Fat Chocolate Mousse (for 2-4 Humans)

100g (4oz.) dark chocolate or choc melts, 4 tablespoons skim milk powder, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon gelatine dissolved in 1 cup boiling water, 1 teaspoon each of vanilla & rum (or liqueur).

Put all ingredients except chocolate in a blender or food processor.  Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water (or in microwave) then add to other ingredients and process for 30 seconds. Pour into serving pots or glasses and refrigerate for a couple of hours to set. Delicious & guilt-free!!

 

Baked Liver Treats (for Airedales)

Any amount of liver can be used, the more the better as it takes a long time in the oven.  Fry the liver.  Cut into treat size pieces.  Place in the oven on the lowest heat possible and bake for about 7 hours or until the liver is baked hard and dry.  They'll love it!

 

Airedale Apple Pie (for Humans)

There are no dog bits in this pie, and it doesn't taste doggy, for sure. It does have the colours of the Airedale in the finished pie: black and tan.

5 cups thinly sliced cooking apples, 1/4 cup chopped pecans, 3 tbsp rum! pinch of salt, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup dark raisins, 1 tsp orange peel, 3 tbsp cherry jam, Enough pastry for a 9" double crust pie.

Procedure: Cook gently in a 2 quart saucepan for 15 minutes, stirring frequently. Fill pastry with apple mixture. Cover with top crust and decorate with a cut-out "A" for Airedale, or an Airedale cutout. Bake for 10 minutes at 450 degrees and then thirty minutes longer at 350 degrees.

 

Rhubarb Crumble (For Humans)

Take an oven proof dish (approximately 11" by 8") and rub butter all around it.

Fill a good 2" of the dish with fresh Rhubarb, washed and cut into 1" chunks and give it a very generous sprinkle of soft brown sugar.

Put 8oz of self raising flour with 4oz of butter into a mixing bowl and then work it together until it resembles bread crumbs, then add 3oz of white sugar and mix it up.  Add a large handful of Oats.

Mix it all up and cover the Rhubarb with the bread crumb mix.

Cook in the oven for one hour at 170C (340F).

 

Airedale pudding of brambleberry ~ sweet (for Airedales)

Boil 1L of milk with one big spoon of honey, 5 spoons semolina and 300-400g fresh or frozen brambleberries.  Pour in shapes and make cold.  It is good in combination with cream and peach slices!  Humans could eat it if Dales let them!

 

Airedale pudding of vegetable marrow ~ salty (for Airedales)

Stir 4 eggs with 4 spoons flour, 1 kg rubbed marrow, 250g. chopped meat (stew before), 1 cup sour cream, 1 cup boiled rice and pour in greased form.  Cover with lot of cheese (of course) and bake at 220'C for about 30 minutes.  Humans could eat it if Dales let them!

 

Dog biscuits (for Airedales but they can give the Humans a biscuit if they have been good)

Ingredients adjust according to taste: 2 cups porridge oats, 1 cup wholemeal flour, 1/2 cup grated cheese or grated carrot, 1/2 cup boiling hot water, 1 tbl olive oil, 2 tsp Bovril (or according to taste), 1 egg, water/milk as required for binding, [Parsley can be added if dog has bad breath].

Mix porridge and oats together, mix in grated cheese, [add parsley if being used]; dissolve Bovril in hot water, add olive oil and add to mixture; beat egg with a little milk and add to mixture - mix until all ingredients are bound together (adding water/milk as required) - turn out on to a floured board and roll out to 1/2" thick - place on greased baking tray and divide into bite size cubes.  Bake at 180 (fan oven) for about 15/20 minutes until hard'ish - cool on tray and break into pieces - allow dale to sample sufficient to ensure batch edible. Store in air proof container.

 

Pilchard cake treats (for Airedales)

Mash up a large can of pilchards in tomato sauce, beat in an egg and then add SR flour until sort of porridge consistency, spread about 1cm thick on greaseproof paper, and bake, when it is almost cooked though cut into lots of little training size treats and then re-add to oven to 'seal' the edges!

Store in freezer until required - it stinks, but they love it!!!!

 

Pupsicles Frozen lollys (for Airedales)

32oz low fat yogurt-2mashed bananas-half cup peanut butter- 2tablespoons honey.

Mix altogether in a bowl and freeze in bun cases for three hours or overnight.  To serve thaw slightly and push out from underside of case.  Makes around ten lollys- less if you are feeling generous.

 

Lantern Tray Bake (For Humans)

4ozs butter, 4ozs plain chocolate, 4ozs seedless raisins, 1 small tin condensed milk, 10ozs crushed digestive biscuits, 2 tablespoons rum (ish!).

Melt butter and choc in a pan, DO NOT BOIL. Stir in raisins condensed milk and rum. Ensure very smooth.  Add crushed biscuits and stir well. Grease a swiss roll tin and put in mixture. Smooth with palette knife.  Place in fridge until firm.  Cut into 24 squares and sprinkle with caster sugar.  Pack into a container and keep in fridge or cool place.  You can alter the rum to taste, if the guests fall off their chairs you need to cut down a bit.

 

Cheese Treats (for Airedales)

1 cup wholemeal flour, 1 cup white flour, half cup cornmeal, half cup grated cheese, 1 large egg, about three quaters cup water, oven 325f.

Preheat oven.  Mix all well together.  Roll out on a floured surface about quarter inch thick.  Sprinkle with a little extra grated cheese cut into shapes and bake for about 30 mins until brown.  They smell lovely.!!
